levenslijn of reddingslijn - is een touw of lijn die wordt gebruikt om veiligheid te verzekeren, meestal verwijst dit naar een boei die wordt gegooid om iemand in moeilijkheden in het water te redden of een die door zeilers wordt gebruikt om zichzelf aan een boot te bevestigen. Maar ook sportklimmers gebruiken deze levenslijn om hun extra te zekeren in moeilijke of hachelijke sitiaties;

A lot of people say they don’t feel fear, or that they don’t fear death, but that’s just not true! we have the same healthy hope of survival as everybody else. I don’t want to die. At least not yet. [Laughs] I think I just have more of an acceptance that I will die at some point. I understand that, but I don’t want to baby myself along the way.
